I am a Maple Business Card Case. Whenever you say my name, my core skips a click.
Curator's Notes
Norio Tanno's way of crafting intricate wood objects continues to amaze me. For many years Tanno-san told us that he would be retiring from woodworking and handing down the ranks to his son, , but we're relieved to see that he is back at it! What amazes me the most about these business card cases are that they are carved out of a single piece of wood with no other materials except for one spring that securely closes the box with a satisfying click. A barely visible diagonal cut line indicates the lid of the case while never interrupting the continuous wood grain. Each one has a natural warm wood presence enhanced by smooth rounded edges that conform to the hand.
